The following Candidates have filed for positions in the upcoming Redondo Beach Municipal Election scheduled for March, 2005.  They have joined forces and energy to form a "Slow Growth 4 Redondo" slate.  This is a unique opportunity for the citizens of Redondo Beach to install city officials who are genuinely interested in keeping Redondo a quality place to live, work, play, and raise a family.

City Attorney:
Dave Wiggins
District 2:
Bill Brand
Mayor:
Ellen Allan
District 1:
Jim Light

Mayor: Ellen Allan    Ellen is a resident of District 1 and has been a critical factor in the success of prior efforts to defeat the Heart of the City Plan, defeat an attempted establishment of the Heart of the City Plan area as a Redevelopment District, and garnering sufficient numbers of signatures toward the effort to repeal the Sewer Fee once the City announced that they were going to issue long-term bonds against those fees.  Ellen believes that over-development is degrading the quality of life in Redondo Beach, and that Government is responsible to the citizens, not special development interests.  Further, she wants program funding properly prioritizied so that expensive studies with marginal benefit do not rob funds from school crossing guards, after-school activiites, animal control, and other programs critical to the community.  For more information about Ellen Allan, and to learn about how you can support her campaign, go to http://www.EllenAllan.net.

Council District 1: Jim Light    Jim is a long-time resident of District 1, and has also been heavily involved in the success of efforts to defeat the Heart of the City Plan, among others as well.   Jim has, at many times, refuted the City's traffic study numbers - citing the very sources that the City supposedly uses.  He is also very concerned about the erosion of the quality of Life in Redondo Beach.  His experience as an engineer and activist within the community and District 1 make Jim the desireable choice for the City Council District 1 Seat.  For more information about Jim Light, and to learn about how you can support his campaign, go to http://www.JimLight.net.

Council District 2: Bill Brand    Bill, who has spent most of his life in the South Bay area, was also involved with the defeat of the Heart of the City Plan.  Bill's committments to District 2, and Redondo Beach in general, include putting the brakes on runaway development, reducing traffic congestion, establishing more public parks and open space, and improving the overall quality of life in Redondo Beach.  Further, he wants to follow through with the original intent of the public's original rejection of the Heart of the City Plan.  The recent "Heart Park" option for the AES site - to be on the March, 2005 ballot - has garnered much support and publicity under the leadership of Bill.  For more information about Bill Brand, and to learn about how you can support his campaign, go to http://www.BillBrand.net.

City Attorney: Dave Wiggins    As with the others above, Dave has been - and is still - very active in local community issues, and was also a major contributor toward stopping the Heart of the City Plan.  When it comes to City Government, Dave is committed to upholding the letter of the law, the City Charter, and the rights of the public to due process.  He believes that the City Attorney should uphold the law to protect the City's and the public's interest, and that the public's right to free speech should not be compromised under the guise of Attorney-Client privilege.  For more information about Dave Wiggins, and to learn about how you can support his campaign, go to http://www.DaveWiggins.net.

Having been instrumental in stopping the massive development known as "Heart of the City" as well as others programs that would have been detrimental to Redondo's "Quality of Life", these dedicated citizens have committed themselves to becoming involved in local government to carry the public will forward. They are committed to ideals that include Open and Honest Government, More Parks and Open Space for the Public, Slow Growth vs Uncontrolled Growth, Honesty and Integrity in Acting on Behalf of the Trusting Public, Responsible Budget Expenditures and Responsible Budget Cuts when necessary, Acting on the Public Will for the Public Good, and working hard to keep and improve Redondo's "Quality of Life".

Please consider visiting their individual websites to learn more about them and how they feel about the community, how they expect to contribute to the community through public office, and how you can support them.
